This wood fired shino mug was selected by Pete Pinnell for inclusion in the "On the Rocks: An Exhibition of Vessels For and Related to Drinking" that was held at the Pewabic Pottery in Detroit, MI. This national show was in early 2019. The mug is shino glazed and was fired in the first chamber. The shino glaze is almost golden in color and exhibits some carbon trapping as well as the impact of wood ash. It is high fired (2,400F), and like all of my work is dishwasher and microwave safe.
Three-tiered mug (2019 On the Rocks: An Exhibition of Vessels...)
All pots are high fired (2,400F) stoneware or porcelain. They are wood fired in a wood burning kiln for over 24 hours. As the flame crosses the pots, iron is drawn to the surface so the flames 'draw' permanent flashing marks on the pot, and the ash melts to form a glaze. All work is food safe, and dishwasher and microwave safe.
